Tours begin at their scheduled time, leaving from the Visitor Center on a ¼ mile stroll along the scenic river path. Tours last approximately 90 minutes and provide enjoyment of the exterior and interior of the house. Please wear weather appropriate attire and comfortable walking shoes which you will be asked to remove for the interior part of the tour. The one-room, steel-and-glass house designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe has been called one of the most important works of 20th century architecture. Located in a beautiful meadow on the banks of the Fox River two miles south of Plano, Illinois the Farnsworth House has been called “sculptural” in its simplicity and a masterpiece of design.

The Farnsworth House site contains many obstacles to accommodating visitors with accessibility challenges, but the staff will do their best to meet your needs provided we receive advanced notice. However, no photographs, videos, CDs, multimedia, or images of any kind of the Farnsworth House, grounds, and property therein are allowed to be taken for commercial uses of any kind, or for any other use without the
express written permission of the Farnsworth House or Landmarks Illinois as operator of the House.

 

Interior photographs of the House for personal use require a private tour and the signing of a photography policy.
